Floating Freedom Bookclub · Since 2020
Read the books they tried to take off the shelf.
A grassroots reading community for every age and background. We read across perspectives, including banned and challenged books, and we put books into people’s hands for free.
DMV and online
Where we have been
It started when the doors closed.
The Bookclub began in 2020, when COVID kept kids home and away from the reading groups they loved. We met online so young readers could keep talking about books together.
Through 2025 and 2026, we donated books across our community. Now we are building something steadier: ongoing programs and events, led by a new committee.
What comes next
From giveaways to programs that last.
We are expanding our reach and building ongoing programming. The new committee will choose the books, set the schedule, and bring in partners.
Free books
Book drives, exchanges, and giveaways that move books off shelves and into hands.
Open conversation
Reading events and discussions for every age, online and in person.
Every perspective
Reading lists that include banned and challenged books, read in community.
Help lead it
Join the Bookclub
committee.
Choose books, plan events, and run book drives. It takes a few hours a month, and no experience is needed.
